This Mac and Chao is hands down the best Vegan Mac and cheese I have ever had and I have damn near tried them all. My daughter and I recently went vegan and I have been desperately trying to find a replacement mac and cheese for her. Well tonight she ate this..... and asked for more!! This is like the first one with no weird ass plastic after taste. Very very happy momma and daughter tonight!
I bought both. I tried the chili first but did not bake it. For the creamy I followed directions and it was AMAZING. I have really missed the crispy baked cheese taste and this totally had it. One of the best mac and cheese I have ever had - vegan or not. Please bake them.
The original Mac and Chao is absolutely delicious. Not the most flavorful but the texture is spot on with a homemade mac and cheese. I cooked mine in the oven and it became nice and crunchy on top. I rated less than 5 stars because of the cost and the size of the package. It's much less than a traditional single serve portion of frozen mac and cheese (like Stouffers) but is more than $7 with tax. Just wish there was more!
The first time I tried it, I'll admit - I was expecting it to be just as good as the chao slices. It isn't quite that. After having it a second time, however, I'm hooked. I found that letting it defrost for a while is better than sticking it straight in the microwave frozen, and then letting it sit for a few minutes after it is cooked gives it a chance to get creamier. I have tried plenty of other vegan mac & cheese versions, and this is so much better than all of them.
