Who Is It For?

This wine is ideal for enthusiasts of complex, terroir-driven Rieslings who appreciate a well-balanced, fresh, and textured white wine.

The Wine Story

Paul and Shannon Brock, the innovative owners of Silver Thread since 2011, represent the new generation of Finger Lakes winemakers. They have elevated the 40-year-old estate winery with a focus on expressive, terroir-driven Rieslings. Their approach includes bio-intensive farming and small-batch production, limited to 3,000 cases. The turtle on the label symbolizes their commitment to environmental stewardship, while the bald eagle feather signifies this wine’s prominence in their portfolio.

Vineyard Notes

This Dry Riesling is a strategic blend featuring grapes from the estate vineyard and three trusted partners. The 40-year-old, biologically-farmed estate vineyard on Seneca Lake imparts minerality and elegance. Doyle Fournier Vineyard adds body and ripe stone fruit, Gridley Bluff Point Vineyard contributes intense aromatics and tropical fruit hints, and Randolph O’Neill Vineyard enhances earthiness and pom fruit character.

Winemaking

Fermentation techniques are tailored to the characteristics of each vineyard’s fruit. Various methods, including whole-cluster pressing, skin contact, and diverse fermentation temperatures, are employed. The wine is made without fining and with minimal sulfite addition prior to bottling.

Vintage Notes

The 2020 growing season was marked by unusually sunny and warm conditions with near-drought levels. Grapes achieved high sugar levels while maintaining lively acidity. Harvest occurred from October 10-25, 2020, producing 425 cases. The wine underwent 3 months of élevage in a mix of stainless steel and neutral oak, with an alcohol content of 12.4%.
